Foster Care 101

Every day across Rhode Island, children of all ages—from infancy through adolescence—are removed from their homes by the state due to situations beyond their control. Scared and confused, angry and traumatized, these children need a stable home where they can be cared for temporarily until the state determines that they can return home safely.

Foster parents are compassionate, patient individuals who care for these children. With the support of the Department of Children, Youth and Families, its dedicated social work staff, and Foster Forward, foster families provide a nurturing environment in which these children can grow and heal.
