Advocacy & Legislative Initiatives

At Foster Forward, one of the ways that we fulfill our mission of supporting children, young adults, and families whose lives have been impacted by foster care is by promoting and defending policies that improve their outcomes.

We do this by educating the public when policies that impact those affected by foster care are announced or changed by the state’s Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), the state of Rhode Island, and the federal government; by serving as a credible, data-driven source of information on such policies; and by motivating members of the community to take action on behalf of those policies that are proven to improve safety, enhance well-being, and promote permanency for children and young adults in foster care.

Whether we’re raising awareness with a press conference, compiling testimony for a legislative hearing, or advising our congressional delegation on an important issue, Foster Forward is a tireless champion for foster youth everywhere.
